My journey of life has taken me down many roads. I wish they were all on scenic by-ways, but many of them were also filled with potholes. But what would life be without a few bumps, twists and turns along the way?
Here are some lessons I’ve learned along my journey:
- Be sure to take one day at time. It’s not worth worrying about what’s coming up ahead, because with each moment, it can change. Just remember that God is already in the next day, preparing it for you.
- I like this well known prayer: “God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
- You can’t do life well alone. You need to live in a community of people who love similar things – for support and encouragement. Now that doesn’t mean you have to all bunk in the same apartment or even in the same neighborhood. For Face-Time and Skype are great ways to stay connected with those who support you.
- When bad things happen to good people – don’t give up on God. Keep in communication with Him on a daily basis. Remember He loves you more than anyone else.
Where I will go from here:
Thankfully, my journey keeps going. The bumpy roads I have traveled on so far include date-rape, divorce, death of parents, house burning down, death of spouse, moving several times, loss of friends (not through death), and others.
But I decided to be like the Energizer Bunny and keep going. Life is precious – and worth living, when you have people who are counting on you to be there for them. I love my kids! And I love my friends and family who continue to support me on my new adventures.
I want to be used by God – my new passion is to help children and youth know that they are loved by God no matter what – or who they believe they are. Thinking primarily of those who identify with LGBT. No one should feel like their life isn’t worth living. Been there – and don’t wish it upon anyone else. It’s time to stand up for what we truly believe in. Perhaps you’ll join me.
